API Terms of Service
The terms for partners using the Gage API, the MCP server and anything built on them.
Version 2026-09-24. Effective for new accounts on 24 September 2026. For partners with keys issued before that date, effective on 24 October 2026.
These terms are an agreement between Gage Technologies ("Gage", "we") and the company that holds a Gage API account ("you", the "Partner"). They cover the Gage API at buildwithgage.com/api/v1, the MCP server at buildwithgage.com/mcp, the developer dashboard, quote pages, webhooks, and everything any of them returns (together, the "API"). Accepting them in the dashboard, or using a key after the effective date, means you agree to them for your company. If you do not have authority to bind your company, do not accept them.
#1. What the API is for
Gage is a marketplace for cold-formed steel framing. The API lets you quote your own customers, reserve a fabricator when a customer is serious, and turn a quote into a job that a fabricator in the Gage network builds.
The API is licensed to you for one purpose: selling and delivering jobs that are fabricated by Gage fabricators and placed through Gage. Every other permission in these terms is limited by that purpose. Pricing a job with Gage and then having it built by anyone else is outside the license.
#2. Accounts and keys
- Test keys (
gage_test_…) price and register models. They never commit a fabricator. You may create them from the dashboard once your account is approved. - Live keys (
gage_live_…) reserve fabricators and trigger jobs. Gage issues them by hand, and only to accounts that have accepted the current version of these terms. - You are responsible for everything done with your keys, including by your staff, contractors, customers and any AI agent or MCP client you connect. Keep keys on your servers. Never put them in a browser, a mobile app or a public repository. If a key leaks, revoke it from the dashboard or tell us at once.
- Keep your account details, contact email and webhook endpoint current. Notices under these terms go to the account's contact email.
#3. Fabricators are Gage's network
The fabricators you reach through the API are introduced by Gage. Their identity is confidential until the shop has confirmed the job by paying the Gage fee. Until then the API shows a regional alias and a state. After that, GET /jobs/{job_id} names the shop.
You agree that, for 24 months after Gage first presents a fabricator to you (in a quote, a candidate list, a reservation or a job), you will not:
- find out, or try to find out, which company is behind an alias before the API reveals it, by combining API data with other sources, contacting shops, or any other means;
- place work with that fabricator, or ask or allow a customer to, for any project first quoted, reserved or submitted through Gage, other than through Gage;
- place work with a fabricator you learned of only through Gage, for any project, without going through Gage; or
- tell a customer or anyone else how to do any of the above.
Revealing a name on a confirmed job does not end these obligations. It means the job is running through Gage, and that job and any change order to it stay on Gage.
If you already had a direct relationship with a fabricator before Gage presented it to you, this section does not restrict that relationship. Tell us in writing and we will record it.
#4. Build data
Some of what the API produces is what a shop fabricates from. Build data means the framed model (the Pascal scene with walls and openings placed), the steel frame GLB, member and panel schedules, cut lists, and any drawings or takeoffs Gage or a fabricator produces for a job.
- Gage releases build data only after a Gage fabricator has confirmed the job. Before that, the API returns what you need to show the customer: a display model of the steel frame (the frame GLB), counts, tonnage, flags and the massing preview.
- You may use build data only for the job it was released for, and only to deliver that job with the Gage fabricator that holds it: showing it to the customer, coordinating the site, and installing the frame.
- You may not use build data, or the frame model, summary, takeoff, massing or panel total the API returns before release, to have the building, or any part of it, fabricated by anyone other than the Gage fabricator. You may not give it to anyone who will.
#5. Prices and rates
- Quotes are preliminary estimates from the design and parameters you send. They are not a contract, a firm price, or an engineered design. Final pricing follows the fabricator's review of the drawings. Each quote says how long it is valid (
valid_until). - You set your own margin. The
pricingblock is your retail price andwholesaleis your cost. You alone are responsible for what you charge your customer and for the taxes on it. - Quotes,
wholesalefigures, line items and the regional rate ranges are Gage confidential information. Use them to price jobs for your customers. Do not publish them, share them with fabricators or other marketplaces, or use them to benchmark or negotiate work placed outside Gage. - Do not run quotes to collect Gage's pricing rather than to serve real customers. We look at each account's pattern of quotes against reservations and accepted jobs. An account that quotes heavily and never commits will be asked about it.
#6. Money
Gage does not collect or hold customer payments. Deposits and payments for a job are handled between you, your customer and the fabricator, and any deposit you record in the API is your own record. The fabricator pays Gage's fee under the fabricator's own agreement with Gage. Nothing in the API makes Gage a party to your contract with your customer.
#7. Your customers
- You are the seller to your customer. You are responsible for your contract with them, for describing the frame accurately, for permits and site conditions, and for passing on the limits in section 9.
- Quote pages and emails Gage sends on your behalf carry your branding and the fabricator's alias. Do not alter them to add a fabricator's identity or contact details.
- When you send Gage a customer's details or drawings, you confirm that you are allowed to, and that the customer has been told their information will be shared with Gage and with the fabricator that takes the job.
#8. Data
- Your data (the drawings, models and leads you send) stays yours. You give Gage a license to use it to provide the API: reading and pricing designs, routing jobs, sending them to fabricators and customers, and supporting you. Uploaded plan files are deleted after they are read. The design Gage extracts is kept with the quote so that the quote and its frame can be rebuilt.
- Gage may use data from quotes and jobs, with customer and partner identities removed, to calibrate and improve its pricing and framing engines.
- Gage's data (prices, rates, fabricator data, the network listing, frames and everything else the API returns) belongs to Gage and is licensed to you only as these terms allow. Do not scrape, cache beyond what running your product needs, resell, or build a competing product or dataset from it.
#9. Engineering and limits
The framing, takeoffs and models the API produces are preliminary and unstamped. They are not sufficient for permit or construction. Stamped shop drawings and the final member and panel schedule come from the assigned fabricator's engineer of record. You will not present API output to a customer, a building department or anyone else as engineered or stamped.
#10. Acceptable use
Do not:
- exceed rate limits, share keys between companies, or use many accounts or keys to get around limits;
- probe, load-test or reverse engineer the API, the pricing engine or the framing engine;
- send files you have no right to send, or anything malicious;
- use the API for any unlawful purpose; or
- have an AI agent or MCP client do anything these terms forbid you to do.
#11. Suspension and termination
Gage may suspend keys at once, without notice, for a breach of sections 3, 4, 5 or 10, for a security risk, or where we reasonably suspect one. Otherwise we will give you notice and a chance to fix the problem first. Either party may end this agreement with 30 days' notice. When it ends, your keys stop working, and you must delete Gage confidential information and any build data you are not using to finish a confirmed Gage job. Jobs already confirmed with a fabricator run to completion through Gage.
Sections 3, 4, 5 (confidentiality), 8, 9, 12, 13 and 14 survive termination.
#12. Remedies
A breach of section 3 or 4 causes Gage harm that is hard to measure. If you or your customer place work outside Gage in breach of section 3 or 4, you will pay Gage, as liquidated damages and not as a penalty, 10% of the value of that work, or 10% of the most recent Gage quote for the project if the value is not known. Gage may also seek an injunction without posting a bond, and may suspend your account.
#13. Warranties and liability
The API is provided "as is". Gage does not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that any quote, read of a drawing or frame is accurate. Fabricators are independent businesses. Gage is not responsible for their work, their schedules or their pricing on final review.
Except for breaches of sections 3, 4 or 8, and except for your obligations in section 12, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages, lost profits or lost data. Gage's total liability under these terms is limited to the greater of the fees you paid Gage in the 12 months before the claim and US $100.
You will defend and indemnify Gage against claims arising from your contracts with your customers, your use of API output, or your breach of these terms.
#14. General
- Changes. We may update these terms. We will email the account contact and post the new version here at least 30 days before a change takes effect, unless the change is required by law. Your continued use of the API after the effective date means you accept the change. The version and date at the top of this page are the ones in force. The dashboard asks you to accept each new version.
- Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Utah. The state and federal courts located in Salt Lake County, Utah have exclusive jurisdiction.
- Entire agreement. These terms, and any order form or written agreement Gage signs with you, are the whole agreement about the API. If they conflict, the signed agreement wins.
- Assignment. You may not transfer this agreement without Gage's written consent, except to a successor to your whole business that accepts these terms.
- Contact. Questions about these terms go to the address on the Developers page.
