Quoting from your own tools, over the API and MCP
API v1 prices a design, reserves capacity, and returns a quote document. The hosted MCP server hands the same engine to an AI assistant as a tool.
Plenty of the people who want a steel framing price are not going to come to our site to get it. They are inside a design tool, a configurator, or a sales app they already built, and the frame is one line in a much larger number they are assembling for their own customer.
API v1 is for them. Post a design, get a price from a real shop, and reserve that shop's capacity if the customer says yes.
#What the API does
- Prices a design. Send geometry or a plan set and get a cold-formed steel framing quote back, with tonnage, freight, and the fabricator that would build it.
- Explains the number. Every quote carries its assumptions and a confidence band, so you can tell your customer how firm it is instead of guessing.
- Reserves and releases capacity. A quote can be reserved against a shop, then accepted or released. Unreleased reservations expire on their own, so a stalled deal does not sit on a shop's calendar forever.
- Returns a quote document. A rendered document your customer can look at, carrying your branding rather than ours.
Endpoints, fields, and errors are in the API reference. Start with Getting started for a key. Test keys work end to end, so you can build the whole integration before there is any money involved.
#The same engine, as a tool for an assistant
There is also a hosted MCP server at https://buildwithgage.com/mcp. Point Claude, Cursor, VS Code, or any other MCP client at it, hand it a floor plan or a 3D model, and it comes back with a quote, the shop that would build it, and a preliminary panel schedule.
It authenticates with the same API key the REST API issues, and it is a thin layer over the same engine. Pricing, tonnage, routing, and confidence banding all happen in one place, so an assistant and a server-to-server integration cannot end up quoting two different numbers for the same house.
There is no separate credential and no separate pricing model to learn. If you have already read the API reference, you know what the tool will give you.
#Who it is for
Modular and panelized builders quoting their own customers, plan sellers who want a framing price attached to a plan, and developers building anything where a frame is one component of a larger quote. If that is you, request access and tell us what you are building.
